10 Famous Movies That Genuinely Deserve Remakes

3. Police Academy

Possibly the crown jewel of comedy franchises, Police Academy had no less than 7 outings spanning ten years from 1984-1994. Despite always maintaining a healthy sense of fun and a serious lack of, well, seriousness, Police Academy seemed to fizzle out and disappear, perhaps due to the ageing cast and a sense of "OK, enough is enough". A traditional sequel at this point would be seen as little more than a reunion with audiences sceptically wondering if the old cast can re-ignite the magic they so casually displayed in the 80's. Why not apply that same risk to a new, fresh cast and a reboot tailor made for today's comedy audiences? Well, you may not agree, so apologies for being the one to break the news to you, but the Police Academy reboot is, apparently, going ahead. No doubt another example of Hollywood's determination to recycle the 80's, it's hard to imagine where this one could go wrong. It doesn't have to provide overly intelligent humour, in fact, the dumber the better as far as the characters are concerned. The casting people will have such an array of talent to choose from in what could be the biggest comedy ensemble cast ever assembled. Imagine the likes of Vince Vaughn or Seth Rogen in the academy (we like them, right?). On the bright side, if you're a fan of the originals, there is talk of cameos, suggesting that the franchise will be essentially handed-over to the new recruits, making it a kind of sequel/reboot which could make the idea more appealing to traditionalists.

My life is simple. I write songs, sing in a band, act from time to time and I watch A LOT of movies and television shows. My preferred genres are Sci-Fi and Comedy. I decided to write for WhatCulture because my girlfriend (yes, I'm a sci-fi nerd and I have a girlfriend!) is sick of me ranting about films every time we leave a cinema. I do hope people enjoy reading my reviews, although I'm sure there will be many different opinions about every film I review. I respect everyone's right to their opinions so please feel free to comment and debate anything I write. Thanks for reading!
