Jaws is believed to be one of the first films to have been shot on the ocean. Instead of filming in someone's pool or in a big set as they do nowadays, the movie was filmed on a real ocean off the beach of Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts.

This choice made by Spielberg did eventually pay off and helped deliver a film that felt real, but it did have its downsides. Not only did it increase the number of setbacks as they relied on nature throughout the process, but it added on an extra 100 days of filming and increased the budget by a hefty amount.

Despite the obvious issues, Spielberg was adamant about filming on the ocean instead of a lake, and although it had its rough moments, it was worth it in the end. They may have faced rough seas, and the boat may have threatened to sink a few times, but they still managed to pull through and sail to victory in the end.

The film reached an impressive £373.9 million at the box office, making it the highest-grossing film of its time until Star Wars came along two years later.
