10 Femmes Fatales Who Would Tramp All Over Your Heart

4. Catherine Tramell - Basic Instinct (1992)

Catherine Tramell (played by Sharon Stone) was one of the ultimate femmes fatales in 1990's cinema. She is a crime writer who is openly bisexual. She wears no knickers and flaunts her goodies. Associated with the death of a washed up rock star, Ms Tramell is investigated by Nick Curran (Michael Douglas) who finds she has a very dodgy past indeed and is implicated in a lot of murders. When he shows Ms Tramell this evidence, she lords his drug problem over him. The two construct an erotic alliance which is nearly broken when Catherine's lesbian lover tries to kill Nick. All of the evidence is twisted around to make someone else - a police psychologist called Beth Garner whom Curran had sexual dalliances with - look like the murderer. Tramell gets off the hook but Curran is wise to the fact that she is liar and manipulator. He still ends up in bed with her - and the camera pans to under the bed where an icepick lies ominously. The ending is ambiguous but one thing is certain - Catherine Tramell would tramp over a million men's hearts to satisfy her perverse desires in the blink of an eye. She is a very clever and devious lady and men like Nick Curran seem to fall into her bed despite knowing what a disaster the whole thing will lead to.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
