10 Film Characters Who Were Secretly The Villain All Along

3. Dana And Marty - Cabin In The Woods

Cabin in the Woods
Lionsgate

As the laidback stoner of our group of protagonists, you likely don't pay all that much attention to Marty at the start of the film. After all, there's monsters doing terrible things to look at instead. And while you are inclined to pay attention to Dana - as she's literally the first character we're introduced to - even she can fall into the background as the ghosts and ghouls come out to take the main stage.

But this changes fairly quickly when the two become the only survivors of their motley crew. They're also the pair who learn the most about the mysterious organisation that is releasing monsters to kill everyone who had inhabited the titular cabin. As it turns out, this is less a random horror film attack, but rather an organised sacrifice done in order to prevent dark gods from arising and killing humanity.

When they are told that their death before sunrise is necessary in order to save the world, Dana and Marty decide they actually aren't too keen on humanity, and share a joint while the world ends instead. They're victims for almost the whole film, but their decision at the end to let everyone in existence die instead of themselves is a pretty straight-up villainous move.
