The Film: Oldboy Now eleven years old, Oldboy is still fresh in our minds - not only due to the recent Spike Lee remake, but to the effective and smartly choreographed original that still stands up today. The main character wakes in a cramped and dingy room and is imprisoned there for 15 years, meanwhile finding that his wife has been murdered and he is prime suspect. Suddenly released and equipped with few clues, he sets out on a mission to find his captor. The Character: Dae-Su Oh Charged with rage pent up over 15 years, Dae-Su Oh fights his way through half of South Korea in search of not just his captor, but also the reasons why. He seems to have shed any conscience that he may have had before, making him a force of violence - demonstrated wonderfully in a single shot fight scene, armed with a claw hammer and his determination. A man caged like a wild animal will predictably behave like a wild animal on his release - and he does so (to the delight of the viewer), dealing out some righteous vengeance along the way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwIIDzrVVdc
