4. Reservoir Dogs
Legendary cult film that mixes a who dunnit plot line, zippy dialogue and acts of ultra violence. When it comes to the latter, there is one scene in particular that fits the bill. The bank heist has been mucked up and there is a police informer in the ranks of the thieves. Mr Blonde started shooting civilians during the raid and the men are not impressed with his psychopathic behaviour. Being a sick f**k, Mr Blonde has a hostage in the form of a police officer. In a sequence of ultra violence, Mr Blonde tortures the policeman for his own amusement - slashing his face and doing a little dance whilst chopping off his ear. He throws petrol all over the policeman but before he can carry out the nefarious deed, Mr Orange who is lying in the floor of the warehouse half dead, kills Mr Blonde. The fact that the ear severing takes place off screen does not diminish or dilute the horror of the scene. Mr Blonde is a pure psychopathic sadist but the scene has become so iconic, it is one of Hollywood's most notorious acts of ultra violence.
