2. A Ma Soeur! (2001)
The tale of two sisters - Anaïs and Elena who are obsessed with losing their virginity. They go on holiday and Elena, who is stunningly beautiful, loses her virginity to an older man whilst the plump and unattractive Anaïs cries bitter tears. Their mother finds out about Elena's sexual shenanigans and packs her and into her car to go home. They stop at a roadside area where the mother can get some kip. All of. sudden, out of nowhere, an axe man arrives and brutally dispatches of Elena before strangling the mother. Anaïs flees into some woodland nerby but he captures her and rapes her. When the police come on the scene, she denies being raped. This whirlwind of ultra violence comes completely out of the blue and is shattering for the viewer to watch. A lot of people feel that the ending of the film is a gimmick, or something director Catherine Breillat did because she ran out of ideas on how to finish the film. For me, it works really well and I can't imagine a better way to finish this tale of adolescent sexuality.
