10 Film Sequels That Made Fans Rage Quit
7. Jaws 3-D
The success of Jaws 2 made a third entry inevitable, but neither Spielberg nor the original cast wanted anything to do with it. The studio pressed ahead anyway, deciding to set it in SeaWorld Orlando – which isn’t actually connected to the sea – and filming it in glorious 3-D.
The result is a stunningly dull “adventure”, where SeaWorld employees somehow fail to realise there’s a 35-foot shark hiding out in the resort. The effects for the film are legendarily poor too, with the money shot of the shark crashing into an underwater control room being a real howler. The film was as far away from the classic original as you could possibly get, and it killed interest in future sequels.
Not that the release of Jaws: The Revenge helped that cause much.
