10 Films Banned For Ridiculous Reasons

2. Goldfinger Was A Nazi, Israel Aren't Fans

Not only is Goldfinger one of the best entries in the storied history of the James Bond franchise (one in which the quality levels are all over the map, no less), but it's also the richest in terms of trivia. Did you know, for example, that the titular villain's dialogue was all dubbed over by another actor? It's true! Gert Fröbe spoke very little English, and learning his lines phonetically was just taking too long, so all those classic lines - €œOf course not Mr Bond, I expect you to die!€ etc €“ are the work of Michael Collins. Oh, and also, the German-born Fröbe was totally a Nazi. Another fun fact for you there. The film played for six weeks in Israel before his Nazi past (he joined the party at the age of 16 and left eight years later) was disclosed. Interestingly the ban was overturned by a man appealing to to the Israeli Embassy in Vienna, because Fröbe hid him and his Jewish mother during the war, which may have saved their lives. Aw.
