10 Films BETTER Than The Book They Were Based On

1. Jurassic Park

Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park was published in 1990 and is by far the writer’s most successful work, but it wasn’t until the film adaptation in 1993 that the properties popularity exploded.

Michael Crichton’s initial concept was so clearly brilliant that it sparked a bidding war for the book's film rights.

The movie is a technical marvel and still looks remarkable when viewed in 2020; it’s hard to imagine any recent special effects laden blockbusters standing up quite so well in twenty-seven years’ time. Thanks to some expert use of CGI and animatronics coupled with excellent sound design, Jurassic Park was brought to life on screen.

The film retains much of the novel’s same narrative beats while the characters undergo some significant changes in the film adaptation; the whole cast delivers charismatic performances and it’s not long before we’re rooting for them. That same feeling was never replicated in any of the subsequent sequels, which feel somewhat lifeless in comparison to that first. Hopefully, Jurassic World: Dominion will manage to recreate that same spark when it releases in 2022.
