10 Critically Panned Films That Will Be Future Classics
7. Hot Rod
Speaking of silly comedies... Hot Rod was also originally intended to be an SNL vehicle for Will Ferrell but gestated into a feature-length film starring Andy Samberg. The film, about a wannabe stuntman who puts on a charity motorbike jump to raise money his ailing step-father, just so he can finally kick his ass, was written off by critics when it came out in 2007. Critics said that the script wasn't funny enough and that the plot was implausible. The Boston Phoenix even said that the film was "barely worth an illegal download". Ouch. While these surly critics might not have gotten the joke, the film has gained something of a cult following in recent years after failing at the box-office. Endlessly quotable and featuring some great performances by Samberg, Isla Fisher, Wall Arnett, Ian MacShane, Bill Hader and Danny McBride, this is a film that definitely deserves more love than it gets. It WHILL become a classic. It WHILL!
