10 Critically Panned Films That Will Be Future Classics

6. The Paperboy

The Paperboy looked too have all of the ingredients to be a crowd and critic pleaser but, evidently, came up short on both fronts. Director Lee Daniels' previous film, Precious, had done very well at the box-office, getting nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The cast included a resurgent Matthew McConaughey as well as the dependable Nicole Kidman and John Cusack as well as teen heartthrob Zac Efron. Despite competing for the prestigious Palm D'Or at Cannes and several other minor awards, The Paperboy was not treated kindly by critics. Save for one or two positive reviews, most critics were turned off by the film's raw nature and said that it was too trashy and melodramatic to be taken seriously. Thing is, the film knows exactly what it's supposed to be and wants the audience to be in on the joke. It is also highly entertaining, beautifully filmed and has several jaw-dropping moments that stay long in the memory. Besides, what other film has Nicole Kidman peeing on Zac Efron's face?
