10 Films Inspired By Real Life Events (That Never Actually Happened)

1. Killer Elite Is Based On A Book That Made False Claims About The Death Of Soldiers

Conspiracy, shadows, shadowy-assassins, secret groups of elite special forces soldiers looking to kill you.

All of the above and more is present in this loose adaptation of adventurer and explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes claimed work of non-fiction, The Feather Men. The film should really have tried to distance itself from the book as much as possible in hindsight.

Fiennes claimed that he was saved by the Feather Men from an alleged hit-squad who tried to kill him, and were also responsible for the deaths of three British special forces personnel who he was stupid enough to explicitly name in his book, which led to several lawsuits from the dead soldier's families who claimed this didn't happen, and also made Fiennes look like a right dick.

Fiennes has responded rather dubiously when asked recently on whether he stands by his claims that the events of his book did take place, but the Killer Elite adaptation doesn't really try that hard to move too far away from the book's story, and still maintained it was based on true events.

It definitely isn't a good look to fictionalize the very real deaths of brave soldiers, and adapting this into a movie however loosely is in very poor taste, so its no wonder why the film was received so poorly and flopped at the box-office.
