10 Films That Suffered In The Editing Room
9. Original Star Wars Trilogy
Remember a long time ago in a galaxy not so far away, when George Lucas' original sci-fi fantasy trilogy brainchild wasn't a butchered computer generated mess?
Ok, mess may be too harsh a term, but, you can't deny that Lucas' constant 'revitalising' of a trilogy that didn't need the added lick of paint - which the director insisted on adding in subsequent trips to the editing room post-theatrical release - led to the old flicks actually losing some of their original charm.
Part of what made the original iteration of the series so engaging was the 'lived-in' feeling and authenticity which Lucas managed to conjure up from a low budget production and a reliance on practical effects.
Yet, a large portion of that flew out of the window in 1997 (and 2004 and 2011) when Lucas decided to cram a ton of disjointed CGI into the special releases of the original saga and also created a Greedo debate which still rages on today.
Lucas definitely had the films' best interests at heart, but in trying too hard to visually connect the dots to his darling prequels he distanced the first trilogy from what made it so special to begin with.
