10 Films That Teased Great Sequels (That Never Happened)
3. Star Trek Beyond
The J. J. Abrams Star Trek trilogy had a strong start that managed to win over loyal fans and reboot the franchise, a wonky middle with the obvious Khan reveal and an interesting final film which hearkened back to classic Star Trek series.
This last film - Star Trek Beyond - introduced some welcome additions to the crew, most notably alien scavenger Jaylah who at the end of the film is admitted to the Starfleet Academy which may have seen her even join the crew in the next instalment. The final line of the film even alludes to the next adventure as Bones looks at the Enterprise under construction and asks Kirk "you really want to head out there, huh?"
However, no franchise has looked more uncertain than this Star Trek film series. Despite wild reports of Quentin Tarantino wanting to bring his flair to the franchise and create an R-rated Star Trek with the actors, Pegg immediately rebutted these claims as nonsense which led to some online feuding between the two. Other ideas such as Chris Hemsworth returning as Kirk's dad looked promising but like the Tarantino films there has been no further confirmation if this is still on the table.
