10 Films That You Never Realised Doctor Who Actors Were In
2. Billie Piper In The Calcium Kid
Billie Piper vowed to put her somewhat ill-fated singing career behind her in the early noughties (it started off well - her debut single, Because We Want To, made her the youngest artist ever to debut at number one) when she retired indefinitely from the music industry to pursue her dream career in acting. It wasn't until she was introduced to the nation as the feisty shop girl turned Earth Defender Rose Tyler in Doctor Who that she became a beloved household name for her on screen escapades but she had been given a fair crack at the whip before being cast in the coveted role of the Doctor's original 21st century companion. Not only did she land the starring role as Jenny in the 2005 (critically panned) horror film Spirit Trap, the former pop sensation also shared the big screen with none other than Orlando Bloom in the 2004 mockumentary comedy film The Calcium Kid. Her character, Angel, played Orlando's girlfriend but their on screen chemistry just wasn't sizzling enough to secure success as the film received generally negative reviews and a somewhat undesirable - and not to mention extremely rare - overall rating of 0%. Ouch. Her next big screen escapade, Things To Do Before You're 30, was also a flop. Luckily for Billie, though, a certain Time Lord was just around the corner. The rest, as they say, is history.
