10 Films You Must Never Watch With Your Parents
5. Her
Spike Jonze's Her really wasn't the film people expected. Looking like it would be a satire of the reliance you have on technology, it ended up being an incredibly affecting and totally unique love story; while the controversy around dating an operating system is touched on, the real focus is on the feelings between a Joaquin Phoenix's Theodore and Scarlett Johansson's 'Samantha'. What was also completely unexpected was how sexual some moments were.
Less than ten minutes in you get a taste of how distant human interaction has got, with a sudden phone-sex scene only becoming more extreme when the girl on the other end starts talking about strangulation with dead cat tails. Yikes. There's other parts of the film you really wouldn't want to watch with your parents; the extended sequence with a sex surrogate and, while it's played brilliantly, the highly emotional first time the duo have 'sex'.
The Worst Bit: As it comes so unexpectedly and is verbally very graphic, the dead cat request really is the most awkward part of the film.
