Halloween 4 was widely ballyhooed as the big comeback for Michael Myers after he was conspicuously absent from the anthology-based third movie, yet its shocker of an ending set up a future for the series that just about nobody saw coming.

After Michael (Tom Morga and George P. Wilbur) is obliterated by a lynch mob, the climactic twist reveals that Michael's niece Jamie Lloyd (Danielle Harris) has seemingly taken up his mantle.

Jamie stabs her foster mother, Darlene (Karen Alston), with a pair of scissors while wearing a clown costume, reminiscent of how a young Michael killed his own sister at the start of the first movie.

A deeply disturbed Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) then attempts to shoot Jamie before being stopped and the film abruptly ends, establishing a genuinely shocking and intriguing path for the series' future.

Except, Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers quickly threw that out the window, revealing that Darlene survived the attack while downgrading Jamie's apparently murderous intent to psychological trauma, much to fans' disappointment.

A fifth film which took place years later with an adult Jamie wrestling with her murderous urges while Michael returns to Haddonfield could've been awesome, but instead we got another typical Halloween movie. Oh, and Jamie forming a telepathic link with Michael because... reasons.
