7. The Lighthouse

A few years removed from his breakout horror hit The VVitch, director Robert Eggers is back with yet another dark fantasy film in The Lighthouse. Brilliantly, few plot details are actually known at the moment, other than the fact the picture will again be a period piece, this time focused on two men looking after the titular lighthouse.

Willem Defoe and Robert Pattinson have been cast in the two lead roles, shown off for the first time in costume in the moody, black-and-white image above. The still looks about as miserable as the film itself itself is going to be, as the actors have discussed the harsh filming conditions, with Pattinson even revealing how he and Eggers almost came to blows at one point.

If all goes well, Pattinson could be looking at one of the best years of his career across the rest of 2019 and into 2020, and between this, High Life and Christopher Nolan's untitled next picture, he could finally achieve the mainstream recognition that he's garnered in the indie scene over the past few years.
