10 Foreign Language Horror Films Hollywood Doesn't Have The Balls To Remake
1. A Serbian Film (2010)
Language: Serbian
Banned in countless countries and investigated by the Serbian government due to its depictions of rape, incest, necrophilia and the sexual abuse of children, A Serbian Film is most certainly a movie that you will only watch once, and most will struggle to get to the end. For those that do, there is no sense of achievement, only amazement that someone thought this film up, never mind made it.
The film follows a semi-retired male porn star who is struggling to bring in the kind of money he needs to support his wife and young son. Despite wanting to get out of the business after his son stumbles across one of his videos, Miloš accepts a lucrative offer to take part in a new art house porn movie, though when he arrives on set he realises he has been drafted into a snuff film.
What follows is a series of increasingly depraved and highly disturbing scenes that have to be seen to be believed - one of the tamest moments comes when Miloš kills one of the films security staff by ramming his erect penis into his eye socket, a scene that would undoubtedly be the most messed up in most movies, horror or otherwise.
Writer/director Srđan Spasojević claims that the film is a diary of the Serbian people's molestation by their own government, intended to highlight the monolithic power of political leaders, and while some critics were able to see the cinematic value of A Serbian Film, just as many found it to be a vile exercise in pointless exploitation. Don't expect to see An American Film any time soon.
