10 Forgotten Sci-Fi Horror Movies That You Need To Watch
4. The Host
You can never go wrong with a good creature feature, and this one works hard to impress. While it's still remembered fondly by some - and was at one point the highest-grossing film in South Korea - it's been somewhat forgotten thanks to work the director Bong Joon-Ho would go on to create, such as Okja and Parasite.
This flick follows Park Gang-du, a man who works at his father's snack stand and gets thrown into a world of action and revenge after a mysterious, deformed monster from the Han River kidnaps his daughter.
The Host does the monster genre slightly differently, as it gives a surprising amount of agency towards its leads. In these kind of movies the mission is typically to survive the beastie, but here, the leading family seek the monster out themselves in a ploy to save their youngest. This makes it easy to get invested, as there's a real driving force.
Plus, the creature itself is incredibly memorable, and its shady origins with the American government give the film a satirical edge that makes it far more nuanced than your average monster flick.
