10 Geekiest DVD Commentaries Every Film Fan Must Listen To

6. Adam McKay's Joke Commentary - Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby

Talladega Nights

It's easy to draw the conclusion from this commentary that writer-director Adam McKay isn't all that fond of regular DVD commentaries, or at least the potential for them to become pretentious and maddeningly self-indulgent.

As a result, his uproariously funny commentary forTalladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby has the director with supporting actor Ian Robertsconcocting a laundry list of fake fun facts about the movie, such as the fact that the budget really cost close to $500 million, Sean Penn was flown in for a cameo for a cost of $3 million and the first cut of the film was 9 and a half hours long.

Though you wouldn't think this shtick could sustain over almost 2 hours, the sheer manic comic energy of the pair accounts for a lot and, in my opinion, proves just as funny as the film itself.
