10 Genuine On-Screen Acting Injuries You Probably Missed

5. Stone Cold Steve Austin Breaks His Neck

It might be something of an exaggeration to call Stone Cold an actual actor, but with a number of high-profile films under his belt €“ including the awfully brilliant Condemned - you just can't ignore his claims. But before he had started making movies badly, Stone Cold was a true icon of the WWE Attitude era, bringing in the crowds even when long-term injury kept him out of the ring. He would still attend events, and whip the crowd up, even if he wasn't able to unleash the rattle-snake, and the reason came down to one major injury that could have threatened to end Austin's career entirely, and which he successfully managed to keep hidden for a considerable amount of time. At Summer Slam 1997, after a summer-long feud with the Hart Foundation, Austin was challenging Owen Hart for the Intercontinental championship, and the chance not to kiss his backside (so the rules for the loser stipulated.) Not long into the bout, Owen put Austin in a sit down piledriver, which wasn't set up properly, and Stone Cold's head was driven authentically into the mat, breaking his neck and rendering him temporarily paralyzed. Clearly harder than most people, Stone Cold persevered despite the injury and was able to crawl over to Hart and pin him for the win. It was hardly the most convincing end to a match, but it was fitting considering the pain he'd had to endure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKYYsg-jMfU
