10 Great Blockbusters Held Back By A Terrible Lead Performance
2. Keanu Reeves - Bram Stoker's Dracula
Keanu Reeves has spent virtually his entire career battling against accusations that he isn't a very good actor, but you don't spend nearly 30 years as one of the industry's most recognizable and popular stars without doing more than a few things right.
Having starred in four of the greatest action movies ever made thanks to Point Break, Speed, The Matrix and John Wick, Reeves has more than proven his action hero credentials. However, his work in more dramatic fare has often left a lot to be desired, and that's never been made clearer than his painful turn in Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula.
Coppola's movie is the kind of thing that the studios just won't take a risk on anymore unless its being made by Tim Burton, a blockbuster-sized gothic horror fantasy that doesn't shy away from being very strange and often disturbing with a star-studded ensemble each taking their turn to chew the scenery.
However, Reeves is awful as Jonathan Harker. Just awful. His misguided attempts at nailing an English accent only draw more attention to how bad his acting is, and he's hopelessly outgunned and outmatched by every other member of the cast, with the obvious exception of the just-as-terrible Winona Ryder.
