10 Great Dark Comedy Films You Haven't Seen
4. Sightseers (2012)
“He’s not a person, he’s a Daily Mail reader!”
A mismatched couple take off on their perfect holiday together: a sightseeing trip around rural England. However, things quickly take a nasty turn when they start murdering people in cold blood.
Comedian writer-actors Alice Lowe (Tina) and Steve Oram (Chris) had been developing their respective characters for quite a while before Sightseers graced the screen, and this shines throughout the film. Their ability to portray violent ideologies in a comedic and familiar fashion is a pleasure to behold, and provides this criminally undervalued piece of British mastery with the foundation it deserves.
This genuinely is black British humour at its very best, and it's a great shame just how few people have watched this defining piece of cinema. So, if you're up for an amoral romp through the beautiful British countryside with a couple of murderous weirdos, look no further than Sightseers. You won't regret it.
