10 Great DC Characters That Should Get A Solo Movie (But Won’t)
5. Jor-El
Man Of Steel gave us an extended look at Krypton, and Russell Crowe’s Jor-El. Crowe cut a decidedly more dynamic version of the character than the 1978 movie, who looked a lot like a bored Marlon Brando wrapped in tin foil. This Jor-El was both a scientist and asskicker, who tried in vain to convince Krypton to save itself from impending doom.
Jor-El is always a tragic figure in the mythos, and since the world of Krypton has barely been explored on the big screen a movie – or series of movies – exploring Superman’s homeworld would give audiences something new. Plus it would be nice to have a large-scale blockbuster delving into a completely alien world.
A movie featuring Crowe in the role and the return of Michael Shannon’s Zod would be great, but with DC locked into a different path, and the upcoming Krypton TV show covering similar ground, don’t expect a Jor-El origin story in the near future.
