10 Great Directors With No Movies In The IMDB Top 250
1. Alfonso Cuarón
Highest-Rated Movies: Children Of Men (7.9) and The Prisoner Of Azkaban (7.8)
Alfonso Cuarón has directed seven feature-films, but admittedly, most people will have only seen three of them (Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban, Children Of Men, and Gravity). Fortunately, these three represent the best of the director's work, proving that Cuarón is undoubtedly one of the greatest directors of our time.
He began his career directing small comedies and dramas like Great Expectations, and while these movies were solid, he truly began to thrive when he was given larger budgets. Cuarón is a man with big ideas who wants to tell grand stories, and looking at his earlier work, you can almost see his movies bursting at the seams with untapped potential.
His big break was the third Potter movie, an entry that some people still regard as the best in the franchise, and the film that made everyone take the boy wizard's onscreen adventures much more seriously.
He followed that up with Children Of Men, a film that arguably revolutionised the "one long take" style of directing, and then Gravity was his biggest hit yet, a multiple-Oscar winner that made remarkable use of special effects technology.
It really is amazing that none of these movies made the Top 250 - Cuarón has action, heart, great stories, memorable characters, and Harry freaking Potter. Still, at 56, he's got a long way to go, and it won't be surprising if he has one or two entries by the time his career is over.
