10 Great Disney Movies You've Probably Never Heard Of
5. The Great Mouse Detective
If you have ever thought to yourself that you would love to see an anthropomorphised version of Sherlock Holmes, then you have found the perfect film in The Great Mouse Detective. This is an incredibly fun and underappreciated Disney movie that very few people are familiar with. It has a delicious mystery and is full of charming humour which gives it a distinct identity.
The film follows the adventures of Basil of Baker Street, a mouse detective who is investigating the kidnapping of a toymaker. The adventure sees him employ his smarts to battle against his arch-rival Professor Ratigan. This villain is, simply put, phenomenal. His design is entirely intimidating, and he is played with so much energy by the legendary Vincent Price. It was a lifelong dream of his to voice a character in a Disney film which is likely why he is on complete top form.
The film is a great battle of wits between a loveable protagonist and terrifying antagonist. It is simple but doesn't patronise its audience. It has fallen out of the public realm of knowledge, likely because it came out in 1986, but it still holds up as a fun adventure today.
