While the two leads have palpable romantic chemistry, and their relationship is certainly believable and endearing, both the book and its adaptation feature an ill-judged, ultimately tone-deaf scene which remains infamous among fans.

While on a romantic trip to Amsterdam, Hazel Grace (Woodley) and Augustus (Elgort) visit the Anne Frank House, a museum founded in memoriam of the wartime writer. During their excursion, as the two tour the museum, the passionate pair begin to make-out, much to the delight of the fellow guests, who bizarrely start to clap. While the peck is certainly romantic, the context and setting in which it takes place makes this kiss scene totally tasteless.
