10 Great Films Featuring Super Awkward Kissing Scenes
6. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
The final film in the perennially successful Harry Potter series garnered widespread critical acclaim and was a box-office juggernaut. Stuffed to the brim with exhilarating battle scenes, impressive performances, and long-awaited closure, this sequel was able to meet the high expectations of its fans.
Of course, The Deathly Hallows Part 2 was not a perfect film: some wondered if the final fight scene between Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) was anti-climatic; others remained unhappy with the decision to split the final book into two separate movies.
Most disappointing, however, was the much-anticipated, ultimately underwhelming kiss scene between Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) and Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint). While there is certainly chemistry between the two characters, the kiss itself was stiff and awkward, and the actors appear almost tentative. This is perhaps due in part to Watson later admitting that filming the scene was much like kissing a sibling.
Many fans were also angered by the extent to which the scene differed from the book. In the film, the pair kiss after destroying a Horcrux, an object enchanted by dark magic. However, the scene in the book is far more sweet and endearing. During the epic Battle of Hogwarts, Ron suggests that pair head to Hogwarts' kitchens in order to protect the House Elves, a species whose rights Hermione has consistently fought for. Realizing that Ron shares her good heart and moral compass, Hermione passionately embraces and kisses him - now that's romantic.
