10 Great Films Featuring Super Awkward Kissing Scenes
7. Back to the Future
A bona-fide sci-fi comedy hit, Back to the Future charts the adventures of Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), a teenager who travels back in time to 1955. In a stroke of bad luck, Marty unintentionally prevents his parents from first meeting, jeopardizing his own existence. In order to save his future self, Marty must attempt to orchestrate a rendezvous between his teenage parents.
However, Marty's plans are drastically derailed when his young mother, Lorraine (Lea Thompson), starts to harbor an intense crush on Marty, entirely unaware that this is her son from the future.
While this entire plot-line is deliberately awkward, the scene in which they kiss is one of the film's most cringe-inducing moments. As Lorraine ardently attempts to flirt with Marty, the latter becomes increasingly uncomfortable, dodging questions and trying to change the subject.
Lorraine ultimately manages to plant one on Marty before eventually sensing that 'this is all wrong'. While the flirty teenager does finally realize that she and Marty are not to be, that does not make this disturbing kiss any less awkward for viewers.
