10 Great Films From 2015 You'll Never Watch Again (And Why)

7. Cartel Land

A gritty documentary that brings the audience right into the heart of the Mexican drug war, Cartel Land follows filmmaker Matthew Heineman as he covers two vigilante groups on both sides of the border. On the American side one group tries to keep drug traffickers out, and in Mexico a local doctor forms a group to stand up to the cartels. His efforts start to make a difference, until internal strife destroys it. Why You€™ll Never Watch It Again: It€™s raw and brutal stuff, featuring images of dead bodies, gunfights and interviews with people who€™ve been subject to horrific abuse from the cartel's. Heineman is also brought inside the headquarters of a vigilante group where the screams of people being tortured can be heard, which is chilling to watch. The film depicts just how hopeless the war on drugs has become, where even people with good intentions will eventually become corrupted or dead. Cartel Land is a powerful experience, but the bleakness of it can only be stomached once.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
