10 Great Horror Movie Characters Who Die At The Beginning
4. Georgie Denbrough - It
Seeing a child pass on (especially in a vicious manner) is undeniably disconcerting, and 2017's It remake understands this all too well. Andy Muschietti's visually appealing and well-scored remake does a spectacular job of fleshing out the Losers Club as well as give frightening weight to the titular antagonist.
The latter is achieved near flawlessly with the death of Georgie Denbrough (Jackson Robert Scott) after his fateful encounter with Pennywise the Dancing Clown (Bill Skarsgard). This begins with Georgie playing with his paper sailboat on a rainy October day in 1988, and after losing it down the drain, the young Denbrough meets Pennywise, who lures in and ultimately kills the child viciously.
In addition to being an awful end to such an innocent character - Georgie's severed arm is particularly unsettling - it acts as motivation for Bill Denbrough and his friends as they face off with the malevolent entity.
Furthermore, the event plays on the fear surrounding the all too real concern of stranger danger and serves as a representation of the loss of childlike innocence later seen in the story.
