10 Great Horror Movie Characters Who Die At The Beginning
3. Tina Gray - A Nightmare On Elm Street
In addition to featuring gruesome kills and positively surreal imagery, the iconic Elm Street franchise began on an appropriately disturbing note. Given the nature of the undead Freddy Krueger and his past actions, it was only fitting that the now-renowned horror film villain was introduced through the death of one Tina Gray (Amanda Wyss).
We are introduced to Tina after she endures a terrifying nightmare so vivid that she somehow got wounded while asleep. The traumatic experience leads to her being comforted by her boyfriend and two friends, who also had similarly unnerving dreams. Unfortunately, her next nightmare turned out to be her last as the-then unknown Krueger that gave her the wounds brutally murders her.
Tina's bloody end established Freddy as a threat that the Springwood residents were utterly powerless against and most shockingly indirectly responsible for creating. In addition to this, the sequence establishes the themes of fear and psychological predation that defined the villain and franchise as a whole.
