10 Great Horror Movies That Are Ugly On Purpose
8. The ABCs Of Death
Horror anthology movies are an absolute blast. If you disagree, then you're missing out on some of the most exciting, bonkers and disturbing horror films that money can buy (or subscription rates can provide). Sitting atop the mountain of gross anthologies is the infamous ABCs of Death, a film that's mind-boggling and completely bursting with variety.
The film's gimmick is that it gathers filmmakers from across the globe and assigns them a letter from the alphabet. Each of these creators is given free rein to produce a short film based on a word starting with the letter they were assigned. However, one theme must be present; death.
As you can imagine, the shorts are a mixed bag of vulgarity, ranging from creepy slashers about the Abominable Snowman to wacky samurai executions to *sigh* apocalypses brought on by farts. It's a real wild ride, and one thing that's consistent is how ugly most of the shorts are.
Thanks to the low budgets and their efforts to stand out, almost all the shorts have this cheap and gross visual vibe. It's a smorgasbord of shoddy VFX, gross-out humour and saturated colours. But that's precisely the point, as the whole thing is a beautiful homage to the genre's ugly charms.
