10 Great Movies (That Were Led By Terrible Performances)

1. Star Wars (1977)

Star Wars. The film that was everybody's childhood in one way or another. If you were lucky, you grew up with the original trilogy, basking in the glory of three of the greatest fantasy films put to celluloid. If you were like me, you grew up with the prequel trilogy and... well, it just wasn't the same. Despite George Lucas tearing apart what he created those many years ago, both share one thing in common - terrible lead performances. Whether it was Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker or Hayden Christensen as Anakin, the protagonists have both been dull, uninspiring, generic and every other term you could think of. For that reason, fans have gotten behind supporting characters like Han Solo, Boba Fett and Yoda, who exude tons of personality despite being frequently out of the spotlight. The films are still so entertaining (well, the originals at least). They captured the hearts of every child in Western civilisation and the franchise still continues to grow and expand today. George Lucas may not have been the best writer or director, but it was the concept alone that saved Star Wars. Lightsabers? Darth Vader? The Force? We loved every minute of it. So much so, in fact, that we probably didn't realise how bad Mark Hamill's acting was. What do you think? Are there any other films that were great despite terrible performances? I love all things imaginative, from the page to the screen, and nurture a soft spot for Donald Sutherland and Daniel Bryan.
