5. 12 Years A Slave (2013) - Sarah Paulson
Sarah Paulson is easily one of American Horror Story's greatest talents. She's appeared in nine of the ten seasons so far, and is widely considered to be one of the most impressive actresses out there today.
Despite her many American Horror Story characters (Billie Dean Howard, Lana Winters, Cordelia Goode - the list goes on), Paulson has also enjoyed some big screen success, with roles in movies like Bird Box, Mud, Oceans 8, and Serenity.
Paulson's biggest (and possibly most successful) film is the award winning 12 Years a Slave, in which the actress starred alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch and Lupita Nyong'o.
12 Years a Slave details the true story of Solomon Northup, a free-born African-American man who was kidnapped and sold into slavery for (you guessed it) 12 years. Paulson appears as the sadistic wife of Fassbender's Edwin Epps, delivering an unforgettably unsettling performance.
