10 Great Movies Starring The Brooklyn Nine-Nine Cast
7. Win It All
The latest from mumblecore maestro Joe Swanberg sees Jake Johnson (New Girl’s Nick Miller) play Eddie, a compulsive small-time gambler, entrusted to look after a sack of cash by a criminal associate, a situation which only has one ending for a man of his proclivities.
The film’s ‘70s auteur aesthetic pushes realism to the fore, and Eddie’s relationship with his brother Ron (Nine-Nine’s great Joe Lo Truglio) is one of Win It All’s most endearing relationships. Lo Truglio plays way against type here, a confident, downright manly small business owner who just can’t quite empathise with his unreliable sibling’s propensity for mucking things up.
A breezy drama with a strong lead turn from Johnson (who was lucky enough to avoid the Nine-Nine portion of the New Girl crossover), Win It All isn’t a world changingly good film but it’s well worth a watch for strong straight performances from comedic actors, including an unusually restrained Keegan Michael Key.
