10 Great Movies You Probably Missed (That You Can Now Catch On Netflix)
4. Goat
Most movies about fraternities depict the partying, boozing side of college life, but Goat approaches the subject from a much more sinister angle, detailing the cruel, humiliating trials young men are often put through if they wish to join a popular frat group.
Despite an impressive young cast and plenty of buzz, Goat landed with a whimper, making hardly any money and not even being given a wide theatrical release - or any theatrical release for that matter, since it only played in 20 theatres for one short weekend in the US.
But it should be commended for choosing to expose what can be a dark, devastating time in the lives of college students. Sure, there are parties and lots of fun, but there's also stress, peer pressure and bullying. Goat is fictional, and as such, its situations are heightened somewhat, but it feels scarily real, and it's a tense, brutal experience that refuses to pull a single punch.
