9. Daylight's End
While the plot of Daylight’s End is nothing new – a badass leads a bunch of survivors through a post-apocalyptic wasteland – it’s shaping up to be something special. It’s received great buzz from early screenings, which praise the action scenes and taut direction, which is made all the more impressive by the tiny budget.
The film has even been likened to movies such as Assault On Precinct 13 and The Raid, which isn’t terrible company to be in. Genre legend Lance Henriksen is among the supporting cast, and the vampires seen here are nasty, brutal beasts who definitely don’t glimmer in the sunlight.
It’s not likely to make a big impact on the genre, but genre fans looking for something that combines tense horror with well-shot action, then Daylight’s End should scratch that particular itch.
