10 Greatest Astronauts In Film History

4. Jim McConnell - Mission To Mars (2000)

Astronauts - Film - Mission To Mars An unexpected storm destroys man's first mission to Mars, leaving only a single survivor. A rescue mission is rapidly launched but meets its own set of fatal disasters. Eventually, the surviving crew members of the rescue ship reach Mars and make contact with the lone astronaut left alive from the original mission. They soon discover the cause of the storm that wiped out the original mission; a trap set by the original Martians. The crew of the rescue mission, led by McConnell, deciphers a set of clues that allow them to diffuse the trap and enter an enormous artifact left behind by long-since-gone Martians. Educating the astronauts with 3-D Imax technology, the Martian artifact reveals the origin of life on Mars, the evacuation of Mars due to an impending asteroid impact, and the origin of life on Earth. At the conclusion of the Martian documentary, a single astronaut is invited to travel to the new home of the Martians, and Jim McConnell accepts the invitation. Why He's Great: It's easy to say we'd all have the juevos to accept the invite from Martians to travel to their new world, but when it came down to it, would we really go? Well, Jim McConnell goes. That's why he's awesome.
