10 Greatest Battles In Sci-Fi Movie History
3. The Alliance Blockade - Serenity
Joss Whedon's Firefly was prematurely cancelled after just a handful of brilliant episodes, then revived in 2005 for one big Hollywood blockbuster to tie up as many loose ends as possible.
A movie with a truly impossible task, Serenity was able to tick almost every box that fans of the show had hoped it would - especially in the action department!
Featuring a number of high-octane action sequences, Serenity pitted Mal Reynolds and his crew against both the Alliance, Earth's most powerful authoritarian organisation, and the Reavers, insane space cannibals that want nothing more than to tear humanity limb from limb.
In the movie's climax, Serenity's crew are tasked with escaping both forces and, in a moment of sheer genius, they engage the Reavers before leading them headfirst into the Alliance blockade. From there, Mal and his crew make their escape in the resulting chaos.
The battle shows off all of Firefly's most loved qualities, with remarkable aerial feats performed by the little ship as its crew fight to escape with their lives. The stand out feature in this battle is that the Serenity barely engages anyone in combat, and is instead little more than a bystander caught in the crossfire between two much more powerful factions.
