10. Brokeback Mountain
Film Directed By: Ang Lee
Original Work By: Annie Proulx Originally a wonderfully new-age short story by Proulx released in '97, the film version starred developing talent Jake Gyllenhaal and the star Heath Ledger and was directed by Ang Lee. Initially quite a risky film it went on to rake in the millions from its mere fourteen million budget and was faced with both admiration (from open-minded film fans) and criticism (from Republican commentators). The admirers praised it for what it was, a forbidden love story that reflected the difficulties of certain situations in sex and the generations. The critics just kept coming up with humorous titles for it like "Bareback Mountain", which, albeit slightly comedic, are stupid things to say and are a disguise for the homophobia this planet still suffers from.
