10 Greatest Film Trilogies Of All Time

3. Toy Story

Star Wars
Disney

Yes, Toy Story isn't going to be a trilogy for much longer with the fourth entry coming in 2019, but regardless of how that film turns out, the first three films form a perfect three-part story that are not only hilarious and entertaining, but which also tackle different themes on childhood and maturity.

The first Toy Story introduced the fascinating idea of toys coming to life, and applied human qualities like jealously and anxiety to plastic playthings. Toy Story 2 took this further and examined themes of abandonment and fear of what the future may hold, and then Toy Story 3 continued with those themes to both their harshest extreme but also greatest resolution.

You can argue that all these existentialist readings of simple kids' movies is taking it too far, but they do show how effective these films are beyond pure entertainment.

The characters of Toy Story are amongst the best in animation history, with even the smallest of secondary players like Wheezy and Mr Pricklepants being memorable, but the camaraderie between Woody and Buzz and their evolving relationship over the series is what really gives these movies their heart.

The Toy Story movies won't just make you laugh, they will make you smile, cheer, and almost certainly cry at least once.
