10 Greatest Marvel Movies Never Made

6. Kurt Sutter's Punisher

There are plenty of Marvel characters that haven't been done justice properly in any kind of on-screen adaptation. Most notably beloved properties like the Fantastic Four have just been waiting for a universally loved adaptation, and until relatively recently, you could have added the Punisher to this list.

Debuting in season two of Daredevil however, before his own solo series and a reported appearance in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again, John Bernthal's MCU Frank Castle is an almost consensus pick for the best ever. Had Kurt Sutter had his way however, there may have been more competition from Thomas Jane.

The Sons of Anarchy creator wrote a script that would have acted as a sequel to 2004's The Punisher, bringing Jane back to the role. Though the movie didn't exactly set the world alight, look no further than the likes of Jax Teller and co. to see that Kurt Sutter knows how to craft a compelling anti-hero.

The issue was that, as someone less familiar with comic books and their lore, Sutter tried to change too much about Frank Castle. There are some things that you just can't take creative licence to, and Sutter learned the hard way. This is a genuine shame, as the writer would have rooted much of Frank's story in his mental anguish as a motivation, ironically something that Bernthal's version of the character has since done to great effect.
