10 Greatest MCU Villains With No Powers

4. Quentin Beck

In the last entry, it was mentioned that Adrian Toomes’ motivation was very much on the compelling side of this particular spectrum. His predecessor and next MCU Spider-Man villain however, couldn't have been more different in this regard.

After working for Stark Industries and developing the holographic illusion tech Stark himself would go on to name B.A.R.F, Quentin Beck grew disillusioned. He harboured a resentment against Tony Stark for how he named his work, and for his talent and ability going unrecognised.

Though making the point that he didn’t like how Tony named his work made him come across as quite childish, Beck went on to actually employ a strong plan to make himself the next Iron Man. He wanted to exploit people’s fears in the wake of Tony Stark’s death to thrust himself into the position of one of the most important and universally loved superheroes ever.

The narrative was a dangerous one to tell, as it could have just come across as silly, but Jake Gyllenhall’s performance, and Beck’s relationship with Peter Parker worked well enough that the man dubbed Mysterio became a memorable part of the MCU. It was the ripple effect of his rivalry with Spider-Man that ultimately opened up the multiverse in No Way Home.
