Mel Brooks has always been an undisputed master of fourth wall breaking humor. One only needs to look as far as Blazing Saddles as an example, when the cowboy fight spills out into the studio and interrupts the filming of a musical number "The French Mistake", which itself is a meta joke. However, the genius comedy director has one masterpiece of meta humour, and that is Spaceballs.

Spaceballs doesn't just break the fourth wall, but smashes it repeatedly. The universe of this movie is not just one in which the characters know they are in a movie, but use that knowledge to their full advantage.

We have heroes using their stunt doubles as decoys, villains fast-forwarding the home video to get an edge and some characters even getting rich from the movie merchandise. It's a wacky adventure that challenges itself to find out just how meta one movie can get.

There's really no limit to how self aware this movie is, its jokes have jokes. And on top of all of the humour and all of the crazy fourth wall breaking this is a a hell of a fun space movie with all of the action and excitement expected of the genre.
