4. Army Of Darkness

Army of Darkness was a long way from the revolutionary brilliance of The Evil Dead II, but the third part in the saga, with a good budget and studio support got the most mainstream attention at the time of its contemporary release and thus brought lots of new fans to the Evil Dead series. Army of Darkness is probably the funniest of the three as it's tongue is firmly in cheek and knowingly camp and slapstick. Sam Raimi also appears to have also gone a tiny bit more insane and some of the ideas in the film could only come from a mad twisted genius. It's a pure delight to see so much craziness on screen as Raimi gently toes the line of genius and self-parody. Bruce Campbell's cult hero, Ash, is transported back to the Middle Ages and somehow becomes a messiah like figure - only in the mind of Sam Raimi is this possible. It's the most stylish entry in the series and Bill Pope's cinematography should be rightfully lauded and it's just nice to see a director having endless amounts of fun. Shame it's going to be remade in the next decade then.
