10 Greatest Villains From Otherwise Disappointing Movies
1. Loki - Thor
The Disappointing Movie: With the promise of Shakespearian drama and viking action, Thor faltered by spending too much time on Earth with uninteresting characters, coming across like a generic blockbuster film. Not so much a bad movie as a letdown.
The Great Villain: Loki has long been touted as the sole memorable villain of the MCU, and with a couple of exceptions, it’s generally pretty tough to argue against that. After all, there’s nothing quite like seeing a Norse rockstar hurl beautifully worded insults at our somewhat clueless hero.
In addition to his exciting verbal skills and magical abilities, Loki bears the weight of a gripping backstory. Taken in by Odin as a living peace treaty, Loki’s true lineage was kept secret of him, never allowing him to realize that he was the son of the enemy and would never rule Asgard. He’s incredibly calculating but he’s held back by his own broken emotions.
What really makes the character succeed are his very relatable motivations: he just wants to impress his father. His entire character stems from that idea and you really feel sympathy for him as he sees his father’s disapproval before he lets himself fall into space. Now if only Marvel could get some more good villains so they wouldn't have to include Loki in everything.
