10 Harry Potter Characters Who Are Way Better In The Books

2. Albus Dumbledore

Albus Dumbledore is the wisest and most powerful wizard of all time. His magical abilities are unparalleled, and no one – not even Voldemort – is capable of bringing him down.

In the movies, we get two versions of this iconic character. Whilst Richard Harris nails the wise-old-man aspect of Dumbledore’s personality, Michael Gambon is physically more robust and intimidating. Harris is probably the better of the two, but the on-screen version of Dumbledore – regardless of who’s playing him – never matches up to the books.

Rowling’s dialogue is simply superb. Those lengthy chapters in Dumbledore’s office are loaded with outstanding passages. Dumbledore delivers more valuable lessons than any other character, touching upon a range of themes, such as love, death, and responsibility. And Dumbledore’s humorous side is also a great addition to the books. Despite his long list of responsibilities, he still manages to enjoy himself by dropping several humorous comments.

Whilst Dumbledore’s dialogue in the movies certainly isn’t bad, it’s worth reading the books just to experience the full range of this man’s superb discourse.
